RC 321: Coronanation Pt 2: The Event

‘We’re In This Together’ the announcements lie at Poundland as the death/infection stats go up and even the Prime Minister has met his Karmic comeuppance after cutting the NHS and screwing up this whole pandemic affair being in intensive care.

I hear even New York are planning to bury the dead in parks (how medieval of them) and the return of mass graves and masks – we just need the red crosses on doors, the bells and people shouting UNCLEAN for the whole shebang. Makes Renaissance Fayre seem mild.

This was recorded a week ago – which seems like a lifetime, but actual the darkness within is prescient as COVID-19 bites. I warn you, it’s not a Keep Calm And Carry On propaganda fest, I decided not to hide the darkness this time. It’s all too clear in our lives, but some people are still in a strange sort of denial. You know the sort, secretly voted Tory but out clapping the NHS like a socialist – when what the NHS really want is equipment, funding and people. At least you can work out who your friends really are in a crisis because we’re all in a crisis. Apart from the rich with their big houses, estates, golf courses and the like. For the rest of us it’s basically ‘go home and die in your tiny flat’.

And then such privileged folk, the Good Time Progressives have the utter cheek to moralise about ‘sunbathers’ and going to second homes (while doing exactly that themselves) and tell minorities and those attacked by this government by it’s mistakes that we should all grouphug (well we can’t, social distancing) make up and be friendly.

No, you don’t get tell those who got described as letterboxes, bumboys, pickaninnies and the rest and/or our lives destroyed repeatedly by this man and his friends how to feel as a comfortable cis straight middle class person. I have listened with grim irony as they moan about the sick pay and they tut ‘isn’t Universal Credit risible’ after telling them about said things for the last three years. They all should have listened and know better, and sadly do but default to the Dig For Victory mode and propping up the status quo, like usual. For all their good talk, they cannot be trusted.

Rant over – there is some less ranty thoughts about all this on the podcast but mostly good music here, from classic metal and metalcore to mashups, doomy electronica to synthwave, folk to afrobeat funk, dance to downbeat covers, industrial to indie funk and folk. But I’m all just a bit deflated by current events to schmatter the usual promotional spiel tbh. Seems a little pointless you know? There is a war on after all.
